Dear Parents and PlayersWe would like to introduce you to our Travel AAU Program and invite your Daughter to tryout for one of our NEPA Flames AAU Travel Teams. What Is AAU? The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, sports organizations in the United States. A multisport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports programs. The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sport. During its early years the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the USA in the international sports federations. The AAU works closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic games. AAU Basketball is the highest level available in age group basketball. Playing AAU basketball will give the player the experience and instruction necessary to play at the next level and move them beyond the players that don’t put in the time, effort, or gain the game experience needed to excel. Additionally travel AAU offers players exposure to college coaches at various AAU tournaments. The mission of the NEPA Basketball Association is to provide the youth of the area the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of basketball at a highly competitive level. We offer a program, which will develop and improve individual as well as team skills, and promote good sportsmanship, team spirit, and encourage team loyalty. NEPA Basketball demands a high degree of ethical conduct by all its players and parents so that it provides a good example for the community, the opponents, and it's participants, thus helping player’s growth to adulthood. To try to accomplishing these goals, NEPA Basketball will provide our players with additional exposure, training, and experience to the game of basketball at some of the highest levels available, thereby enhancing their opportunity to play at the junior high, high school, college level, or beyond.
The "spring season" begins as soon as school ball is over and the teams are selected. Tournaments are played mostly on Saturdays & Sundays from the end of March to the end of June. Teams may compete in tournaments in NY, CT, NJ, RI and PA. Tournaments are usually 4 games per weekend. Each team will compete in at least 6 full tournaments & 2 one day shootouts. 2 tournaments & the 2 shootouts will be in Scranton.
